Great Last Minute Wine Gifts

Decanter It's two days away. And you still haven't picked up a little something for that wine lover on your list. Don't worry, I've got your back. Here's a nice list of last minute gifts for the wine lover in your life.

1. Paso Robles Winery & Vineyard
The San Marcos Creek Vineyard is located in the important Paso Robles appellation. It includes 92 acres, 42 of which are planted, as well as  winery facility, a B&B and a home. This would make a lovely gift for the wine lover in your life. $8.1 Million.

2. Fine Bordeaux
Everyone loves a fine bottle of Bordeaux. Consider the 1961 Chateau Latour. It's drinking very nice by all accounts and your wine loving friends will find it the perfect bottle to place on the New Year's Eve table or in their safe deposit box. $6,200.

3. Wine Literature
Some of your oenophile friends are likely bibliophiles too. So how about a wine book. You might consider this lovely 19th century, 19 page book that includes lithographs of Champagne vineyards and watercolor drawings of Hungarian wineries. It's a hard to find little wine book, so that makes it special too: $17,500

4. Wine Getaway
For the wine loving couple in your life, how about a nice little wine-getaway. For example, what wine-loving couple wouldn't enjoy exploring the wine regions of Spain, Portugal and Bordeaux aboard the the "Regatta", the magnificent Flagship of the Oceania Cruises fleet. This three-week cruise including expert instruction on all things wine while sailing the Med and Atlantic coasts Europe would be a delightful Christmas gift: $9,500.

5. Decanters
Wine decanters are outstanding gifts. Elegant and useful, they will make any wine lover happy. For example how about a lovely sterling silver mounted Decanter from 1870.
The neck is applied with a three-dimensional beautifully pierced,
chased and engraved sterling collar with handle and hinged lid. The
silver handle is designed as a grapevine, the body is decorated with
grape clusters and leaves, the hinged lid has a grape cluster form
finial. The body is hand cut crystal. The silver neck has a cartouche
form reserve engraved with two crests. The silver neck and lid are
fully hallmarked. $4500

6. Wine By The Month
The beauty of a case of wine is that it allows one to taste the same wine periodically. Consider offering your wine loving friends a case of the same wine they can go back to each of the 12 months of the year. And don't forget to ask for at least a 10% discount when you buy by the case. So, for example, how about a case of
1929 Corton Marechaudes 1er Cru Seguin-Manuel. $10,740.

    Tom-
Folks should hold off buying that vineyard in Paso. If my read is correct, by the end of 2010, it’ll go for about 4 or 5 million rather than 8.
Hope you had a Merry Christmas. Happy New Year!
