Wine Blogs, Dirty Pictures and Growing Your Anatomy

ListI was going through my blog stats today, looking at various measurements of visitors. One measurement is a keyword analysis. What you see here is a list of the 25 most common search terms for the past 1000 visitors to Fermentation that took place over the past day.

I don't know about you, but it strikes me as a little bit funny.

Of these 25 search words and phrases, more than half have very little if anything to do with wine. And more than a few suggest that some desperate readers ended up at FERMENTATION: The Daily Wine Blog after seeking out pornography and methods for increasing their penis size (note the funny misspelling in this last regard).

I guess the point is that if you blog about wine long enough, you'll end up attracting porn lovers, the illiterate and anatomically dissatisfied and pot heads to your blog…as well as wine lovers.

I wonder if there is someone out there who instead of gazing at pornography today is instead cultivating a new found interest in wine politics?

Worse yet, should I be offended by “Children Writing”?

Reading a visitor’s websearch history likely is more informative than nearly random searches which bring a browser to Fermentation. I believe various forms of adware read thru the computer and harvest that information unknown to the visitor.
Also, there may be a wide difference among search engines. Google may not suggest to a person who wants to teach their children writing that they visit Fermentation.
Yet another way of reaching Fermentation could be through a saved link for people who want fast, direct connection to Fermentation rather than typing in a search string.
However, the HSU search looks like perhaps Fermentation is on the alumni office radar!

I used to check my counter to see how many people, and which that I knew, were reading but now, holy shit it’s the google searches that I check for now. Freaking hilarious. Due to some of my photos and somewhat sensual posts I get some seriously freaky folks landing on my blog….it’s the “Tired fat person” searches that kind of bum me out.

  9. Tom Wark - March 17, 2012

Perhaps. But you have always been generous in giving the benefit of the doubt, Fred.

    Tom,
Love the post. Now I just have to wonder what posts I’ve missed that get you found in these searches. Hmmm? You’ll probably get double the traffic for some of those items now. You can do it!

Tom – that was probably a California winemaker who meant to search for “increase your pinot size” …

Peculiar, our search of “Large Naked French Spiders” didn’t show up on that list.

My coder is trying to convince me to move to .net from PHP. I have always disliked the idea because of the expenses. But he’s tryiong none the less. I’ve been using Movable-type on a variety of websites for about a year and am concerned about switching to another platform. I have heard great things about blogengine.net. Is there a way I can transfer all my wordpress content into it? Any help would be really appreciated!
