Give A Wine Blogger A Chance: They Matter

WBC13I believe the Annual Wine Bloggers Conference provides a large measure of inspiration, education and insight for those writers that attend. It’s for this reason that the Wine Bloggers Conference Scholarship Fund, which helps bring a number of bloggers to the conference who may not be able to afford it otherwise, is a very good thing and kudos to Thea Dwelle for administering the scholarship fund.

But this is also why I will offer this challenge to the wine industry, the wine blogging contingent, wine writers and wine lovers alike:

I’LL MATCH THE NEXT $500 IN DONATIONS MADE TO THE WINE BLOGGERS SCHOLARSHIP FUND.

The sea of new wine content that has emerged over the past 10 years is due completely to new technology and can be largely attributed to those who have taken advantage of this technology and launched and maintained wine blogs. Much of this new content comes from voices and pens we’d never know about or hear from had the simplicity of publishing not been provided by new technology and the wine blogging platform in particular. Because of this explosion of content, we have to understand that a great number of insightful wine voices existed in the past, but never had the means to let it be heard. That’s unfortunate. But it’s not the case today.

The new voices ought to be encouraged because among them will be that voice that provides us with inspiration. Another will provide us with an insight that advances our understanding of wine. Another will write in a way that uniquely delivers a defense of wine appreciation. Another will make a principled case for reform or change in the wine industry. Another will make us laugh.

SO, IF YOU ARE IN THE INDUSTRY AND BELIEVE THERE IS VALUE IN ENCOURAGING NEW LITERARY WINE VOICE, DONATE $5, $10, $20, $100 OR ANY AMOUNT…AND I’LL MATCH UP TO $500 IN TOTAL DONATIONS TO THE WINE BLOGGERS CONFERENCE SCHOLARSHIP FUND.
