New Wine, Beer, Spirits, Cider Legal Blog Launches

lawfullibationsA new blog focused on Alcohol Beverage Law has launched: “Lawful Libations” from the New York firm of Farrell-Fritz. Begun in March, Lawful Libations has a certain focus on New York legal happenings connected to the alcohol beverage world, but has also focused on federal issues.

It’s a welcome addition to this particularly narrow niche of blogs. Back in 2010 I wrote a post listing the various alcohol beverage legal blogs, in which I profiled 15 different blogs reporting on the legal and sometimes political machinations in the business. Today, only nine of those 15 blogs continue to publish with any sort of regularity.

The majority of posts at Lawful Libations are being authored by Ryan Sirianni, the first apparent point man on alcohol beverage law. I like the very straightforward and concise posts he has so far produced on issues like the Eataly Tied House controversy, health claims in NY on alcoholic beverages, new rules for the use of “gluten free” on wine and beer and new federal growler regulations.

There are a lot of interesting things going on in New York now with regard to alcohol regulations as well as alcohol politics. It will be interesting to see if Ryan and the other bloggers at Lawful Libations can keep us regularly updated on all of it. It’s not an easy task to keep up the posting on a regular basis.

Very interesting site. We added it to our favorites (not easy with Windows 8). The current lead article on “Tied-House” Laws was unbelievable. When we lived in Maine there was a wine shop that was also producer and importer of some of the wines they sold. Never heard of any problems stemming from this arrangement. It would patently illegal in New York.
