Christmas Morning Booze

Ba

I don’t know about your house, but if there is not a special drink that goes with that early Christmas morning gift opening session, there really ought to be. Frankly, without one the whole spectacle can seem a bit overwhelming.

Something is needed to take off the edge.

But what? What is the proper Christmas morning Gift Opening Drink?

The drink must meet a certain criteria

1. Easy To Make
Let’s face it, you don’t want to me making a complex drink at 5am. You’re bound to get it wrong. You want to make it fast. And, since the rule should be no opening Santa’s gifts before Mom and Dad have a drink in their hand, you can be the kids will have a stake in the ease by which the drink can be made. Also, it should be a drink that is easy to make again, quickly.

2. It Should Be Easy to Drink
You really do need to be able to suck it down without worrying about a burn. Christmas isn’t about pain. Plus, when the son or daughter reach for it and take a gulp in their frenzy of happiness, they shouldn’t be punished by something that strips off their taste buds for the next 2 days.

3. It has to be strong.
Hey, it’s Christmas Morning. Where are you going? Plus, It’s Christmas Morning.

The Correct Drink is the BRANDY ALEXANDER

It’s very simple to make. It can, in fact be mixed in no more than a minute or so. Despite the brandy, it does slide down smoothly due to the half and half. And, when made correctly it is also strong.

1.5 OZ Brandy (try to use something good. Cognac works fine too)
1 OZ Dark Creme de Cacao
1 OZ Half and Half
1/4 tsp grated nutmeg

In
a shaker half-filled with ice cubes, combine the brandy, creme de
cacao, and half-and-half. Shake well. Strain into a cocktail glass and
garnish with the nutmeg

Very simple to make and it can be made quite quickly. Plus, the drink, if it’s not over done with the creme de cacao, offers a certain brandy-induced jolt that will ease your mind about the items strewn on the floor you are likely to have to make work, and make work quickly. I find I"m able to adequately get through the gift hurricane with two Brandy Alexanders.

That picture looks an awful lot like my mom’s eggnog, which is a Christmas morning staple. Mom’s eggnog meets all 3 criteria, especially when she adds the rum.
