Embrace the Opportunity

Since we are in the midst of the nominations process for the 2009 American Wine Blog Awards, I wanted to explore this process a little bit.

The first thing to note is that by most accounts there must be upwards of 800 wine blogs on the Internet. I suspect at least 500 of those, or more, are written in English and therefore eligible for being considered as a nominee in the seven categories listed below.

What it means to be nominated in any category is this: First the nominee, whether nominated once or ten times, will be examined to see if they have posted 52 times last year. If they have, they will be forwarded to the judges for evaluation and possible inclusion in the Finalists category.

In large part, this is the most important part of the process behind the American Wine Blog Awards. If a blog is not nominated, there is no possibility of it being a finalist, let alone a winner. Last year there was a bit of discussion here and there that some blogs got snubbed and that the process of informing the blog world and wine world of the Awards was insufficient to get all the necessary nominations. We'll be working very hard to get the world out as far and wide as possible during the nomination period this year that ends on February 8.

But the bottom line is this: As a reader of fermentation, a wine blog reader, a wine blogger or an industry person who believes there are specific blogs that need to be put up for recognition, now is the time for you to take action. Below are links to all the categories.

Embrace the Opportunity:

Best Wine Blog Graphics & Presentation

Woo-Hoo!! The 89 Project gets in under the wire, with 54 posts in 2008. Well, I guess it still needs to get nominated, but WE MET THE MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS! You’ve got to start somewhere.
