I’d like to nominate your own blog, Tom along with Vinography

  2. tom - January 8, 2007

Fermentation is ineligible to be nominated. (but thanks).

  3. Mark - January 8, 2007

Gotta give it to Dr. Vino’s wine blog.
(Sorry to hear we’re barred from voting for you, Tom.)

  4. lagramiere - January 8, 2007

Along with the first two, I’d add Jamie Goode, http://www.wineanorak.com/blog

  5. jeffrey - January 8, 2007

    Lenn Devours
    Wine For Newbies

  6. Steve Bachmann - January 8, 2007

    Vinography
    Dr. Vino
    Basic Juice
    Thanks, Tom!

  10. eljefe - January 8, 2007

I came here this morning to nominate several blogs, but nearly all of my picks have been covered by others.
I’d like to slip in a humble suggestion for next year for a “Best New Wine Blog” – as an encouragement for up and coming blogs that may not have been around long enough to meet the 52 post criteria, but have still “made a splash”. For instance, I would nominate this blog in the Single Subject category:
    http://columbiawineblog.blogspot.com/index.html
But only 46 posts in 2006 since he started in September.
    Thanks Tom!

  11. Josh - January 8, 2007

    Here are my picks:
    Vinography
    Zinquisition
    Dr. Vino
    Jamie Goode
    Good Grape
    Lenndevours
Hey El Jefe, whats up with Calaveras County banning the street side sale of kittens? That’s how my wife and I got our pussy. For shame!

  12. vinosdelsur - January 8, 2007

    I nominate Veritas in Vino.
    http://www.alicefeiring.com
It’s like reading a novel in installments and learning a ton about wine at the same time. You can’t help but become engaged with the protagonist (Alice Feiring) as she travels the world–reflecting on trends that drive wine production (for better and worse), offering travelogues and vignettes to wine-producing regions and enticing you to travel to the same places, all the while adding choice tidbits from her personal life.
Unlike other wine blogs, this site provides wine recommendations (of course) but also a range of information about everything wine–how wines are produced, why production strategy (and manipulation) matters, how to enjoy wine solo or with food, who is making wine, and where to find the passion and soul of the industry.

  13. The Wine Commonsewer - January 8, 2007

    Vinography is a favorite.
I know we can’t nominate Fermentation, but it’s a good one.
Robin Garr’s Thirty Second Wine Advisor is top drawer. Always interesting. Always entertaining.
I really liked The Wine Amateur, whose focus was mostly on Oz Wines, but I think he quit writing it last fall.

  14. Toni Litsinger - January 8, 2007

The Wine Commonsewer again is the best.

  15. NoStar - January 8, 2007

I’ll second that motion: The Wine Commonsewer. TWC delivers a delightful mixture of reverence and humor in a fruit forward blog with a stable balance of oak, tannins, and astringency. The finish is clean with notes of vanilla and chocolate.
I daily read The Wine Commonsewer with an anticipation the rivals that for a new vintage of Pinot Noir.

  16. The Wine Commonsewer - January 8, 2007

I guess I should have included the links to my nominations
Robin Garr’s Thirty Second Wine Advisor:
    http://www.wineloverspage.com/
    Vinography:
    http://www.vinography.com/
    Wine Amateur
    http://wineamateur.blogspot.com/

  17. Jim Breen - January 8, 2007

  19. pablo Gimenez melo - January 8, 2007

I am Argentine and also I want to take part!!!!
    Regards Paul

  20. eljefe - January 8, 2007

Really Josh – I don’t think this is the appropriate forum to discuss where you and your wife get pussy…

  21. Tim Carlisle - January 8, 2007

I’d go with Jamie Goode – by far and away the best thing this side of the Atlantic – puts me to shame by some distance!
As for Fermentation being ineligable – Tom have you thought about moving the hosting of the awards to other blogs from year to year so that you are eligible some years – as I’m unlikely to be nominated anyway – small blog – small readership – inconsistant posting and generally being amateur I’d be willing to host it so that you are eligable?

  22. Stephen Mackey - January 8, 2007

    I would like to nominate:
    http://www.NotavivaVineyards.com/weblog/
Great in-depth coverage and graphics on the founding of a Virginia farm winery.

  23. Josh - January 8, 2007

El jefe going right for the gutter, as usual. I suppose one can only expect ad hominem attacks when confronted with the indefensible banning of street side kitten sales. 😛

  24. Paul Mabray - January 8, 2007

too bad we can’t nominate fermentations but here are Inertia’s recommendations:
    Good Grape
    Pinot Blogger
    Winery Website Report

    —Paul Mabray

  25. Nick - January 8, 2007

    Cork Jester
    http://www.corkjester.com

  26. tom merle - January 8, 2007

What a brilliant and aggressive move on your part Tom. I can’t ever recall a PR/advertising outfit, promoting and getting paid to advise cliets on using a medium of communication, creating an award category for that medium. But the blogosphere is different, and anyway no publication or association was stepping up to the plate (indeed there was much grousing that the WS doesn’t take bloggers seriously).
I hope you will create a category for best advocacy blogging down the road, naming the category after Jerry Mead and bestowing the Jerry Mead Award. No one did more for the cause of direct shipping, leading to the Coalition for Free Trade (started by John Hinman when I was at Family Winemakers), that “Curmie”. An amazing guy who is largely forgotten or unknown by all the youngsters around here.
Best wishes for an exciting competition.

  27. Adrian Moore - January 8, 2007

    I’d like to nominate http://www.winecommonsewer.com
Everything I know about wine I learned there.

  28. El Bloggo Torcido - Twisted Oak Winery - January 8, 2007

    Josh’s Pussy

Over on Ton Wark’s Fermentation blog he is taking nominations for his new American Wine Blog Awards – a very cool thing, and this very blog has been nominated as Best Winery Blog! So I’m, like, doing the right thing

  29. eljefe - January 8, 2007

Tom – I apologize for my friend Josh’s pussy fixation (I had no idea it was such a burning issue.) I’ve posted my response over on El Bloggo… thanks! – j

  30. Kel - January 8, 2007

    Vivi’s Wine Journal
    LennDevours
    Grape Juice (http://www.blogit.dodgy-at-best.com/grapejuice/)

  31. tom - January 8, 2007

    Tom:
I’ve thought a lot about Jerry Mead lately. He was relentless and always righteous. Interestingly, there is very little “advocacy blogging” out there when it comes to wine. There are blogs that advocate ways of doing business, but nothing like Jerry did. God, can you imagine Jerry Mead with a blog?
As for the “pr move”, I thought a good deal about this issue prior to starting these awards. I knew I had to assuure that I was not a judge and I’ve been able to take myself out of it by finding judges to determine the finalists and by letting the public do the final voting.
I hope these awards gain attention outside the blogosphere. There are a lot over very compelling new voices writing in this medium that are well worth reading
    Cheers,
    tom…

  34. Joe Valenti - January 9, 2007

30 second wine advisor – the best!

  35. Ted Dewald - January 9, 2007

Jennifer doesn’t seek to show off her considerable knowledge of wine or turn her devotees into wine snobs. On the contrary, she uses extraordinary wit to demystify wine to the masses, like me. Wonderful site.

    Wine Waves

I would like to nominate my sister’s blog, http://www.courtneycochran.com for best “overall” blog. In particular, I find that her blogging appeals to a demographic that has yet to really be tapped in this area, the young developing professional palate, in particular, that of women. Her blogs are informative, fun, and humorous, which I find makes them easier to digest for the ADD generation. I wish that the blog category could best “best up and coming *genre specific* wine blog,” but I’ll settle for best graphics or something. Please check it out!!
