Wine Warehouse Fire Follow Up
There is a excellent follow up story to the wine warehouse fire in the Napa Valley Register. Many of the victims are still sorting out the consequences.
One issue at had is assuring that ALL the wine that was affected by the fire is actually destroyed. Both Saintsbury and Viader say they will have representatives on hand when the destruction of the wine is undertaken. The reason being, in past fires wines that were supposed to be destroyed ended up in the market. Insurance companies don’t like this. But it’s just as important to the wineries whose wine is being destroyed. It’s highly unlikely that the wine will be in good shape. The winery risks a very "unwholesome" bottling weighing on their brand’s reputation.
